With the conclusion of the Rental Assistance for Mississippians Program (RAMP), many Mississippi residents are seeking alternative sources of support. One viable option is the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program. Administered by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS), this program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Community Services. Here’s what you need to know about the CSBG rental assistance program and how it can assist you.

What is the CSBG Program?

The CSBG program aims to reduce poverty and support low-income individuals and families in achieving self-sufficiency. Funds are distributed to local Community Action Agencies (CAAs) throughout Mississippi. These agencies use the funds to provide services that address various needs, including:

  2. Receive an Appointment Notice
    • After submitting your application, you will receive a notice (letter) with an appointment date and time at your local Community Action Agency (CAA). Elderly, disabled individuals, or families with a child under five should expect an appointment within 30 business days, while others can expect it within 45 days.
  3. Gather Required Documents
    • Prepare documents to verify your residence, income, and household members. Required documents include:
      • Photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport, state-issued ID)
      • Social Security cards for all household members
      • Income verification (e.g., paycheck stubs, tax forms, award letters)
      • Residence verification (e.g., utility bills, lease agreement, mortgage documents)
  4. Complete an Appointment with Your Local CAA

  5. Receive a Decision Notice
