If you're looking for an affordable apartment that accepts housing choice vouchers or offers lower rent based on your income, this video is for you. HUD has outlined a simple way to begin your search and we're gonna walk you through it step by step.

First, visit the HUD website, HUD.gov, and then click on Helping Americans. Visit HUD's Affordable Housing Search tool, click OK, then select Find Affordable Housing Opportunities Near Me. Next, enter your zip code in the search bar at the top of the map. You'll see purple and orange icons appear. These mark properties that either accept vouchers or offer rent

based on your income. Click on an icon to see the apartment details, including the name, address, and contact information. From there, you should contact the property manager directly and ask them these questions. Do you accept housing choice vouchers? Are any units currently available? What's your application process? And is there a wait list?

Now I want you to keep in mind HUD's map does not show whether units are available. It only shows locations and contact info. So you're going to have to call if you want to learn more.
