The Section 8 impact in 2023 was significant, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A total of 1,315,607 housing units were available to low-income families and individuals.

A striking 91% of these units were currently occupied in 2023. The high occupancy rate shows there is a high demand for affordable housing, which we believe is essential. The number is also proof of the critical need for the program among Americans seeking affordable living solutions.

But the story goes deeper than the units themselves. The infographic below indicates that over 2 million people are beneficiaries of these homes, with an average of 1.7 people living in each unit. The Section 8 impact is wide-reaching impact. Furthermore, it points to the diversity of family sizes and compositions it supports.

The 2023 data for HUD’s Section 8 housing program is not just a set of statistics. It is a reflection of the life-changing support that HUD provides to millions. As we continue to navigate through housing challenges and opportunities, HUD’s role in fostering community development and stability remains more relevant than ever.
