Navigate Continues to Support the NAHMA Educational Foundation in Changing Lives

Posted On: October 16, 2019

Alexandria, Va., Oct. 14, 2019 ― Navigate Affordable Housing Partners (Navigate), headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., has made a $250,000 donation in support of the NAHMA Educational Foundation scholarship program. Half of the donation, $125,000, is earmarked for the Navigate Affordable Housing Partners Eric Q. Strong Scholarship Fund—an endowment fund that awards scholarships from the interest earned that year to students in the four state’s Navigate serves: Alabama, Connecticut, Mississippi and Virginia. The remaining $125,000 will be used for the foundation’s general scholarship fund, with priority also going to the four states Navigate serves.

“We continue to support the NAHMA Educational Foundation because we can see the difference the scholarships make in young people’s lives. Education can change lives and we’re doing our part to make sure these students continue to have access,” Lisa McCarroll, Navigate CEO, said.

“The generous donations that Navigate Affordable Housing Partners has provided to the foundation over the years have ensured that our shared mission of working to strengthen the lives of those living in affordable housing is met. This year’s donation will not only increase the Eric Q. Strong Scholarship endowed fund but will allow us to provide 50 educational scholarships from our general fund. On behalf of the board of directors, it is my honor to recognize this substantial contribution and thank Navigate for their continued support in our shared mission,” Alice Fletcher, foundation chair, said.

In 2019, the foundation awarded 109 scholarships to student/residents in good standing at an AHMA- affiliated multifamily community. Each individual scholarship is worth $2,500, and the total amount of scholarship money awarded this year was $162,000. Additionally, $2,000 was donated to the Real Estate Management Department at Virginia Tech for scholarships for students pursuing their bachelor’s degree in property management. Over the past 13 years, the program has provided in excess of $1,685,000 in scholarships.

The NAHMA Educational Foundation’s annual gala and auction benefiting the scholarship program takes place Oct. 28 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The benefit serves as the primary public annual fundraising event for the NAHMA Educational Foundation’s scholarship fund. The event includes the Inspiration Award presentation, a sit-down dinner, silent auction and will be capped off by the live auction of the grand prizewinning artwork from the annual AHMA Drug-Free Kids poster and art contest, which appears as the cover of the 2020 NAHMA Drug-Free Calendar.
