Modern modular construction materials make the modular process worth the investment. Recently, we highlighted the five incredible benefits of living in a modular home.

The modern modular construction process allows builders to use materials to shape homes into almost any form and size. The Building Safety Journal shared the three primary materials used to build modular homes. The three primary materials used in construction are Wood, Steel, and Concrete.

Modern Modular: How They Are Built

  • Wood has been a primary building tool for more than 10,000 years. Similarly, the construction of modular homes also uses lumber in the building process. This use is also environmentally friendly. Manufacturers can recycle the wood or reuse it. It is also durable in long-term settings.
  • Crews use steel in modular construction, because It is both is durable and fire-resistant.
  • We associate concrete with foundations, but builders also use it for the core of modular structures. Manufacturers typically use steel-reinforced concrete or cement sections. The builder can manufacture, dry, and cure the cement “in a factory setting.” According to the author Rose Morrison, a builder can control the temperature and ambient humidity.

“There’s no need to worry about a suddenly rainy day or cold snap ruining the concrete or preventing it from drying properly.”

Future applications

Morrison adds modular construction has a “growing number of applications” and allows builders to construct in a shorter amount of time than “traditional projects.”

“These will likely grow in popularity in the coming years as a way for companies to provide affordable housing options and make it easier to keep up with strict deadlines.”
