The Current Situation

Residents of Jackson, Mississippi, are currently under a boil water notice after flooding caused by heavy rain compromised the city’s water treatment facility. As a result, over 160,000 people do not have access to drinkable water. 

How to Donate Water

There are several ways to donate water or support water distribution in Jackson as the crisis continues. A number of local organizations are currently fundraising to help residents including:

• The Mississippi Food Network has partnered with a local television station to raise funds to purchase water. According to the website, a $15 donation can provide three cases of water.
• Mississippi Rapid Response Coalition – Water Fund, a group of over 30 Mississippi-based non-profits, has a goal of raising at least 2 million dollars to provide clean water to residents. You may also volunteer by emailing rapidresponse@peoplesadvocacyinstitute.com.
• New Horizon Ministries accepts donations online, and regularly distributes food and water to Jackson residents in need. 
• Immigrant Alliance for Justice and Equity has been staging water giveaways and is raising funds.
• Cooperation Jackson is “engaging in an autonomous relief effort to ensure that the homeless, the elderly, and those with limited transportation in our community get the resources they need.”
• Mississippi M.O.V.E. is working with the Mississippi Rapid Response Coalition in response to the water crisis.
